Convention 2014

Piking 2014 – September 27th, Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

This year the Pike Anglers Club Annual Convention returns to the Midlands after a break of 2 years. The venue for the last 2 years has been Harrogate and, whilst that was fantastic for the more Northern Regions, was not ideal for many. The venue itself was fantastic and we knew we would have to do something special to top it. Well haven’t we just! We have committed to the fantastic Ricoh Arena for the convention for the next 2 years.  Hopefully this return to the Midlands will mean that attendances will rise due to it’s central location, right in the heart of the country and also it’s excellent motorway links. The Ricoh os within easy reach of the M6, M1, M69, M42, M40 and M5.  Details of the arean, which is situated right off Junction 3 of the M6 can be found here; http://www.ricoharena.com/

The PAC prides itself on having top draw speakers at it’s convention and this year is no exception. we have 3 very different speakers who will all entertain and educate at the same time.

Bob Roberts is a very well known face and is happy fishing for just about anything. He is probably best known for his barbel exploits and, although he won’t be talking about them, he will have DVD’s, books etc on his trade stand. Bob is also a very accomplished predator angler particularly with lures. His talk will feature some of his lure fishing from around the world.

Steve Younger is another angler that his fished for the exotic, the wierd and the wonderful. His talk will be focussing on an area that he has fished a lot, the Fens. expect to see lots of pike pics and plenty of zander too. Although, knowing Steve he will manage to slip in the odd alligator gar for good measure!

Our trio of speakers is made up by Andy Black. Andy is an angler who will certainly need no introduction to most pike anglers particularly those who read the Anglers Mail. Andy is keeping his cards very close to his chest at the moment and hasn’t yet confirmed the topic of his talk but you can bet it will be very informative and feature a whole host of ‘big girls’

Also at the Convention

As well as the speaker we will have the usual trade stalls, which this year we are hoping will be even bigger and better. We already have some first time attendees signed up and we will see the return of some familiar faces who did not attend last year.

The junior coaching will be ran by Eric Edwards and his team of  helpers again. This is not anly very instructional but more importantly it is fun! There will be the usual host of tackle prizes for all the youngsters competing so bring the kids along too. This year we are looking at the possibility of access to the Coventry canal so that the kids can actually do some fishing during the day.

On top of these will be the mega raffle with lots of prizes from tackle to holidays to be won.

There will also be the usual raft of PAC awards given out for those who have shone out in their service of the club. Pictured here are John Currie and Mickey Cox picking up their joint award for ‘pike Angler of the Year’ at the 2013 Convention. Other awards are the Regional Organiser of the Year, Presidents Shield, The James Holgate Pikelines Article of the Year nd the Junior Pikelines Article of the Year.

Making a weekend of it.
